THE last meeting of the Palmwoods Progress Association was well attended
and guest speaker Rod Gibson of Palmwoods Police gave an informative talk.
He discussed new computer techniques for country police, the overall regional
outlook and crime and accident results for thc district, also touching
on traffic and street control for Palmwoods.
Business arising from previous minutes initiated brief discussion on Palmwoods
Local Area Plan and its special sub-committee ready for discussions with
the elected consultant and for resident input.
Other discussions included traffic control, a bypass for Palmwoods and
bus stops and pick-up/changeover for school buses coming into and out of
town.
It was noted that the community signage posts have now been successfully
relocated from the rock wall opposite the railway underpass to outside
the hall. This has not only reduced the hazard of distracting drivers as
they come through the Jubilee Drive intersection but also made the signs
more clearly visible to shoppers and motorists.
Any organisations wishing to advertise with banners on the poles are welcome
to contact the PPA.
Promotional topics discussed were the Palmwoods Heritage Walk and the Palmwoods
twilight markets. Resident and business comment is sought for the latter.
Please contact Trish Platz at the Cafe Fiesta coffee shop.
The PPA Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday, April 10, from
7.30pm.
Nominations for the following positions are required -president, vice-president,
secretary, treasurer and two executive members.
Should any position be vacant (no nominations) at the AGM the chairperson
may call for nominations from the floor and voting should take place by
a show of hands or by proxy.
It is the responsibility of all Palmwoods residents to be aware of and
consider putting their views to the proper authorities, especially in regards
to the Palmwoods Local Area Plan.
This will affect many aspects of our day to day life for years to come,
including matters of growth in and around the town of Palmwoods such as
the development of business and residential areas, internal roads and traffic
flow, bus routes and bus stops and other such matters.
It is too late to object after the relevant authorities have taken their
own section to approve of same.
The PPA's aims and objectives are to:
·Represent the wishes and views of Palmwoods.
·Assist in the promotion and organisation of community activities.
·Enter into arrangements with any government or authority which
may be incidental or conducive to attaining these objects.
Now is your opportunity to join this old and established Palmwoods association
and become a community carer.
The next meeting is on Thursday April 10 at 7.30pm at the Palmwoods Memorial
Hall meeting room.
