Country Fair adds fire to big line-up

A LANTERN parade and fire festival will be a highlight of the Palmwoods Country Fair to be held on the Saturday, May 17 at the Palmwoods State School.

Pupils are busy making lanterns which they will parade as a forerunner to the fire event being organised by the Year Sevens who are building a pyramid structure on the bottom oval.

"The fair will retain the country flavour of the show which we have held in previous years," organiser Judy Venn said.

"All the action will be on the top oval and will include plenty of well-stocked stalls including plants, cakes jams, pickles and a white elephant stall.

The fair will start at 3pm. Challengers from local groups will go head to head in the annual tug-o-war at 4.30pm and the popular auction will be from 6pm to 7pm.

A new addition this year is the speaker’s tent where guest speakers will discuss horticultural issues.

Families are invited to bring a blanket to sit on the banks and enjoy the entertainment while dining on a variety of foods including kebabs, sate, curry and barbecue foods

The fair will wrap up with a fireworks display at 8pm. Admission is free.
