Area plan delayed

WORK on the Palmwoods, Woombye and Eudlo Local Area Plans has been delayed following the extension of consultative periods for Development Control Plans in Maroochydore and Mooloolaba.

Cr Geoff Littler said it had been expected that community consultation would start in Palmwoods during April.

"I am told that planning staff are unable to brief the consultants undertaking the Palmwoods LAP and provide them with the necessary background material so they can commence," he said.

Town planning consultants Gutteridge, Haskins and Davey, have been appointed and are now awaiting a brief from council staff.

The LAP is aimed at formulating a strategy to guide the future development of the towns in ways that support the traditional form and character, amenity and environmental values.

The project team also includes urban design and heritage architect/planner Geoffrey Walker, consultant economist and town planner Bob Abnett and community consultant Tonia Walker.

Cr Littler said the initial stage of the project would be the collection of background information regarding Palmwoods, such as recent development applications, infrastructure provision and future growth projections.

After this information is collected, a community consultation process is now scheduled to start later this month or early June to identify issues and concerns of residents.

"This process, which involves a number of community workshops, will enable residents and interested people to be effectively involved in the preparation of the LAP," Cr Littler said.

Details of the first community workshop will be released soon. Key community groups and stakeholders will also be separately consulted. Any written submissions from the public raising issues and comments for the LAP should be forwarded to Gavin Elphinstone at the Maroochy Shire Council, P.O. Box 76, Nambour 4560.
