POLICE BEAT
WITH SNR CONSTABLE PAUL CAMPBELL

FRUIT stalls with honesty boxes have been raided at Chevallum Road, McKees Road and Eudlo Road. The offender was driving an old black, Ford Cortina with two dogs in the back. A male in his late teens, stocky build with short hair was observed at all three locations taking money and damaging fruit. Police enquiries are continuing into locating the offender. If there are any other instances of this nature, please advise Palmwoods Police as an early arrest is expected.

A DRIVER was fined for failing to stop at a stop sign after a two-car accident at the corner of Main Street and Margaret Street. There have been two separate single vehicle accidents on the notorious corner before the national park estate on Eudlo Road. There were no serious injuries. Motorists are warned that it is a dangerous corner and extra care should be taken when negotiating the bend, keeping speed in mind.

STAFF from Palmwoods Police have been assisting the Sunshine Coast Traffic Branch working the Booze Bus at various locations. It was disappointing to see the large number of drivers still being found with excess blood alcohol concentration.

A EUDLO resident found a number of detonators on her property which had been left over from blasting. For the information of residents, if detonators of any kind are located, don't touch them but call police for advice on the disposal of such items as they are very dangerous, especially around children.

A BLACK bull was found wandering on the Bruce Highway at Forest Glen. The owners were contacted and the bull returned to its paddock. Motorists should always be alert to wandering cattle and stock owners should ensure their fences are in good condition.

FIREARM owners are reminded that the amnesty finishes on September 30. After that time, it will be necessary to pay a one-off registration fee of $15 per firearm. Until the deadline, new licences can be transferred at no charge and existing fire arms owned before March 31, 1997 will be registered at no charge. The deadline also applies to compensation for handing in restricted firearms. Gun owners must have a genuine reason to own a firearm. These include being a member of a shooting club, recreational shooters, collectors or having an occupational requirement. For further information, contact 1800 065 558.

The Palmwoods-Kiel Mountain crossroads with the Nambour Bypass road claimed yet another victim last week when three cars were involved in a collision at the intersection. Work on the overpass project is continuing, with negotiations now underway to resume affected properties.
