Rail duplication must come
Study looks at future corridors

PALMWOODS, Woombye and Eudlo could expect the primary impact of the Caboolture and Maroochydore Corridor Study (CAMCOS) to be duplication of the main line.

And according to local committee representative Ray Knight, the main line would have to be duplicated before any spur line to Maroochydore could be considered.

CAMCOS, made up of representatives of communities in various areas between Caboolture and Nambour, is aimed at investigating the needs for the next 50 years.

The study is being conducted by consultants Ove Arup on behalf of the State Government and will last for 12 months.

Mr Knight stressed that the study was aimed at identifying a corridor and not building a railway.

"Eudlo, Palmwoods, Woombye would be impacted primarily by any duplication of the main line and this could influence the Palmwoods bypass proposal," he said.

"Duplication of the main line is the only way to get more frequent services to Brisbane and it is recognised that duplication of the rail line from Caboolture to Nambour is a pre-requisite to any coastal spur."

Mr Knight said difficulties in corridor assessment between Maroochydore and Nambour could necessitate investigation of a corridor from Maroochydore to Cooroy, via the airport.

The working group for Palmwoods covers the area of the foothills from Eudlo to Woombye east to the coastal strip at Warana. Mr Knight said he would be seeking input and comment from the community west of the Bruce Highway in the working group area.

Anyone with comment or enquiry should contact local representative Ray Knight, phone 5445 0485 after hours.
