LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

EDITOR -

After attending the proposed Hinterland Shire Meeting at Palmwoods, I was surprised to learn it began because a few people in Maleny didn't like the Caloundra councillors. Show me someone who doesn't complain about councillors.

The rubbery financial figures presented looked like a big black hole.

Do we really need more buildings full of bureaucrats dictating our every move?

"Reasons for a New Shire" speaker Barry Back explained the vision for the area was as the food bowl of Australia because John Howard said we'd have no food for export in 10 years’ time.

He failed to explain how the obstacles causing the demise of the local farmers would be reversed, for example, a mega dam for agricultural water.

It was said the new shire costs would be lower because the Hinterland didn't need water and sewerage.

It’s a shame that all the hard work done by the committee appears to have become waylaid by tunnel vision, self interest groups pushing their own radical agendas.
