Wild dogs force action
A PACK of wild dogs which has been terrorising residents of Cheviot and Bamboo Roads in recent months, has finally been cleared from the area.
Residents of Cheviot and Bamboo Roads were forced to take the law into their own hands after the dogs continued to raid properties, killing poultry, sheep and family pets. They were also subjected to nights of
constant howling and barking.
Cheviot Road resident, Christine Allan, said a combination of rat sac and gun fire, had eased the problem and the dogs had not been seen since.
"These dogs killed all my chooks and geese, chased my horses and worst of all, killed my silky terrier," Ms Allan said. "That dog was my pet. She was like my baby."
She said one of her neighbours had been confronted by a group of dogs after her car broke down on Bamboo Road while driving home from work.
"She got out to walk home and a pack of dogs came out of the bush. She said she was terrified," Ms Allan said.
"By this stage we were at our wit’s end on how to fix the problem. We had to do something ourselves as the Council and the Lands Department couldn’t come up with the answers."
The council unsuccessfully tried to trap the dogs and then referred the matter to the Lands Department which advised that it couldn't bait on a property under 50 hectares.
"We decided we had to lock up and keep the children inside," Ms Allan said. "It appears we have now finally rid the area of the dogs as they have not been seen for a couple of weeks, since we put Rat Sac around our properties."
Ms Allan said she was lucky that she had good neighbours as they had had all worked together to fix the problem.
