Concerts sing for new piano

THE Palmwoods Singers are busy planning concerts, raffles and special events to raise money for a new piano for the Palmwoods Memorial Hall.

The first event will be a Mary Kaye make-up demonstration on May 7 at 10am. A Devonshire morning tea will be served and admission is $2.50.

On May 16, a fashion parade from Woombye Fashions will be held in the hall. The winter collection parade will begin at 10am and entry, which includes morning tea, is $5.

Bookings may be made by telephoning 5445 9280 or 5445 9257.

The full Palmwoods Singers troupe will also present two concerts during May. Titled, Lullaby on Broadway, the concerts will begin at 7.30pm on May 24 and at 1.30pm matinee on May 25.

Another exciting event planned for later this year will involve students from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. The date has yet to be set.

Musical Director Marjorie Murray said a new piano for the hall was long overdue.

"We desperately need a new piano because the old one is on its last wheels," she said. "We want to purchase the best we can afford, without going too far."

Hall Committee Patron Les Herse is urging the people of Palmwoods to get behind the piano project.

"The piano will be for public benefit in a public hall so all donations from the public would be greatly appreciated," he said.
