BEHIND THE SCENES

INDICATIONS are that the people of Palmwoods have a new get fit incentive. Keep watch, there’s seldom a time when the new bikeways/footpaths at the eastern entrance to Palmwoods are not being used.

A LITTLE rumour goes a long way. A McKees Road resident, overhearing a wisecrack that the road would make a good bypass for a new route to Montville, passed it on to a few neighbours. It didn’t take long for the story to spread and a contingent of residents turned up at the Palmwoods Progress meeting to voice their concerns. In fact, the response was so good that PPA president Ron Corelli reckons that he might start telling a few more stories as issues close to home seem the most effective way to rally the community.

MULTI-skilling or community pride? The local newsagent was seen out sweeping debris from the street after a recent accident at the stop sign in Main Street. As it was 3am when he was observed hard at the task, it would indicate his efforts were definitely in the name of community service.

THE Police, it seems, are powerless to act when nearby residents are disturbed by the noisy bird alarms which protect local crops. The Department of Environment says action cannot be taken against farmers, provided the property has a rural zoning. For some residents out Landershute Road way, it may be good news that the new residential estate is going ahead as once that re-zoning is through, the bird alarms will have to go and peace can be restored.

RUMOUR has it that there was a gold medal performance at Chevallum Road when a certain local resident watched desperately as her vehicle rolled forward into a garage, causing some damage to the front of the car as well as to pride. The incident has been put down to mechanical failure.

NOTHING speaks like experience. Resident reports she was most impressed when her local vet could vouch for the flavour of the dog biscuits he was selling. Yes, he had tried them himself and could heartily recommend them for the family pooch. That’s dedication to the task!

ON the subject of canines, there’s a lucky black and white chap who makes himself at home on the front step of the Palmwoods Butchery until John McMahon comes good with a bone. If he’s not sitting outside the butchery with a hopeful expression, he’s scampering off with his prize. John says he usually makes the bone a big one so that the return visit doesn’t come too soon.

IT was the Palmwoods party of the year at Clio’s Restaurant as owner Nelson Palmer reached not just his own 40th milestone but also the first birthday of the restaurant’s new location opposite Kolora Park. Popular waitress Carol Howells also hit the big 40 at about the same time and guests came from far and wide to celebrate. The theme was the ‘70s - when Nelson and Carol were mis-spending their youth - or bad taste, or perhaps they are both the same thing. When it came time to pick the poorest of poor taste outfits - and there were some dreadful styles put up by the guests - Judy from the newsagency topped the poll. Tanneke Booth should rightly have claimed the title but lost her nerve and scrubbed up before she could be put on parade.
