Scouts on a winning roll
THE re-elected Palmwoods Scouts committee has big plans for its award-winning group.
The committee was re-elected last week, with the only change being the election of Sally Ryan to the position of vice-president.
President Donna Knevett said the committee would be busy over the next 12 months.
"It is a big year ahead with the group trying to raise money for the new scout den," she said.
The Scouts will move from the current site between the Palmwoods swimming pool and tennis courts, to a new location near the old vigoro oval, off Memorial Drive.
They need to raise around $20,000 for the new den.
"We will be holding a number of events to raise the money, including street stalls, dances, sausage sizzles, and we are working within the Nambour Show," Mrs Knevett said.
The Palmwoods Scouts were recently successful in two competitions.
The Venturers won the regional Easter Venture Competition, which required the competitors to show initiative and survival skills.
"They had to make sure they had adequate water, clothing and other survival necessities," Mrs Knevett said. "Winning this competition was a particularly good effort because it was the first time we had competed."
Another success for the Palmwoods Scouts was in the Kiwi Woggle which requires the scouts to build a camp site, maintain hygiene, and get on well with rival groups.
The scouts achieved a B-grade in this competition.
The Palmwoods Scouts have nine in their venture group, three eligible for the Venture group, 23 Scouts and 20 Cubs, and the group will soon have more members.
"The Range Scouts are closing, so nine of them will be joining us soon,"
Mrs Knevett said.
The Scouts are now calling for group leaders to help cope with the growth in numbers.
