Broadway success

Palmwoods Singers Theatrical Society’s Lullaby of Broadway at the Palmwoods Memorial Hall on May 24 and 25, proved yet another triumph for the troupe, some voting it the best yet.

The young folk showed the results of their special tuition and the presentation was fast moving and entertaining throughout.

The array of costumes was dazzling. Congratulations to Mary Juratowitch for having each little article on hand as it was needed, also to Rebecca Murray for her efficient work backstage to keep things flowing.

Noelene Rudd looked after sound and president Beth Toomey was involved throughout in recording the video. All important accompanist Marjorie Murray’s hands were aching from coaxing the old piano. She will be thrilled when the new one arrives this week.

Parents also had a big task in preparing their children and providing afternoon tea for the multitude.

While not too many ventured out in the rain on Saturday, the Sunday matinee brought a full house.

Many among the audience regularly travel long distances to attend shows and always remark on the professionalism and good entertainment. It would be great to see more people from the local community come along to support and enjoy the shows.

During the week the grand piano the Singers have been working so hard towards with various functions and raffles, will arrive. As it has been necessary to borrow money to pay the shortfall, there is still much to be achieved. It is to be hoped people and groups will support future fund raisers to pay for this great asset to the hall.

During June, entertainment will be provided for Nambour Legacy Laurel Club after their annual general meeting, and on Wednesday 25, selections from Lullaby of Broadway will be staged at the morning concert for Hostel residents and senior citizens. Please book by phoning 5445 9280 or 5445 9257. Come along to Palmwoods Memorial Hall at 9.30am. Admission by donation and morning tea is provided.

Anyone interested in taking part in the annual theatre cabaret in September is invited to attend an information afternoon at Palmwoods Memorial Hall Sunday June 8 at 3pm.
