POLICE BEAT

With Snr Constable Paul Campbell

THERE has been a break and enter at the Chevallum State School, with a portable CD player and a laptop computer to the value of $2500 taken, as well as a small amount of cash. Two doors were damaged. It is the third such incident at the school this year. A video player, a CD player and cash were stolen in March. It is believed that the offenders are young people so if anyone has any information on a laptop computer and CD, please contact the Palmwoods Police or Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.

ONLY one traffic accident has been reported in the district during the past month. It involved a Cleanaway truck and a car on Cheviot Road. Due to the narrow road and the size of the truck, there was not enough room for the two vehicles. Only minor damage was incurred. Motorists are advised to try and give the Cleanaway trucks a wide berth.

SOME unregistered cars have been found at the side of the road and in front of the shops in Eudlo. Anyone noticing any cars which appear to be unroadworthy/unregistered in the streets, should contact police. Although abandoned stolen cars are not a big problem in this area, it is a possibility. Registrations will be checked and if found to be unregistered, Maroochy Shire Council will be contacted. A notice is placed on the vehicle and if it is not claimed within seven days, it will be removed. Such vehicles are unsightly and should be cleared up.

THERE are still some problems with cattle wandering on to the road at Chevallum Road and Hunchy Road. Motorists are advised to be wary when travelling in rural areas.

A NUMBER of complaints have been received of motorists failing to observe the 40kmh speed limit in school crossing zones during morning and afternoon school travelling times. It is there to protect children and should be strictly observed.
