Planning study gets underway

CONSULTANTS Gutteridge, Haskins and Davey (GHD) have been appointed to co-ordinate the preparation of a Local Area Plan (LAP) for Palmwoods.

The study will concentrate on the urban areas of Palmwoods.

"Purpose of the study is to formulate a strategy to guide the future development of Palmwoods so as to enhance the overall amenity of the town and protect and enhance its special character and charm," Maroochy Shire Council’s project officer Gavin Elphinstone said.

"As the village character provides a focus and is a source of community pride, design guidelines are to be prepared to ensure that new development is consistent with the attractive qualities of the town." Palmwoods is to be seen as a unique "town" rather than just another "suburb".

Mr Elphinstone said the expansion of residential development was a concern with the Palmwoods community, so the study would address issues such as appropriate sequencing of land subdivision, flooding, the provision of infrastructure and development based on ecologically sustainable principles.

Residents, landholders and community groups and organisations wishing to make written submissions to the study should identify perceptions and expectations relating to the town of Palmwoods and its future; strengths and weaknesses; business and other opportunities to be investigated; other issues which should be considered by the study team and sources of information and data.

These should be sent to the Project Officer, Maroochy Shire Council, P.O. Box 76, Nambour 4560.
