Prizes to lure artists

ENTRY forms for the Palmwoods Community Hall 75th Anniversary Festival of Arts and Crafts are now available.

Presented by the Palmwoods Art and Craft Group in conjunction with the Palmwoods Hall Committee, the festival will be held in the hall from September 5 to 7.

Generous prizes are on offer, with the winner of the open art prize any subject any medium, collecting $600. Another $500 is up for grabs in the Palmwoods Hall Art Prize section for a painting in oil or acrylic depicting an identifiable Palmwoods scene.

There will also be a $200 prize for a watercolour any subject and $100 for a miniature any medium any subject.

Other categories are Young Artists painting or drawing by students under 13 years mounted and framed ready to hang; and secondary age student award under 19 years framed and ready to hang.

The craft, pottery, woodwork and sculpture sections will each attract prizes of $100.

The official opening of the festival is on Friday September 5 at 7pm. Tickets are $5 which includes wine, cheese and a catalogue. It will then be open from 10am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday for admission of $1 which includes a catalogue.

There will be craft demonstrations and sales all weekend. Entries for the competition close on Friday August 15 and entry forms may be collected from the Post Office or The Shed, Old Bowling Green Road, Palmwoods. Further information is available from Joy Breen on 5445 0583.
