Festival entry planned

COMMUNITY organisations in Palmwoods are being invited to get behind a Palmwoods Progress Association plan to fly the flag with a float in the Nambour Sugar Festival in August.

As well as making a contribution to the 75th anniversary of the Palmwoods Memorial Hall, the PPA float will also recognise the festival’s theme celebrating the Moreton Central Sugar Mill’s 100th anniversary.

The float will incorporate a model of the Palmwoods Memorial Hall and note that only 25 years after the sugar mill opened, Palmwoods had a hall.

People in costume to represent groups which have used the hall for a variety of functions over the years will appear with the model.

"We would like to see a cross-section of the Palmwoods community take part in the parade," PPA president Ron Corelli said.

"We hope to have various organisations from Palmwoods join us in this venture and perhaps march along as a contingent, each with their own uniform or flag, behind the float."

The PPA plans to contact the various community clubs and organisations but Mr Corelli said he would welcome hearing from anyone interested in taking part. He is available on 5445 9172 after hours.
