BEHIND THE SCENES
LOCAL councillor Geoff Littler has earnt the nickname "Indiana Littler" after his recent visit to Papua New Guinea. Mr Littler, a former resident of PNG, has made frequent return visits to work on a pet project helping build the Kokoda Hospital, dedicated to the people who helped the Australian soldiers during the second world war. This time he returned to his old stamping ground on Misima Island which was devastated by a cyclone earlier this year.
The nickname came about after he found himself, among other boy’s own adventures, travelling in a chopper in the dark after being caught short by nightfall and being tossed about in a banana boat in the China Straits half an hour after sunset. When he arrived, he found there had been extensive cyclone damage with the missions devastated and what was a library, little more than a pile of papier mache.
THERE is some curiosity about a large turkey seen strutting around the lawn of the Palmwoods Post Office. Sorry, no answers here.
PALMWOODS may be growing but it remains essentially a very friendly place. Watching the school buses pull out of a morning, one local mum reports she returns home with an aching arm after waving not only to her own children, but lots of other children and the bus drivers as well.
LYN Stevens of Lyn’s Bodybeautiful reports that she has waited for years to have a solarium installed at her beautician’s parlour. At last it has arrived, but Lyn is a few months short of being able to use it. Her first baby is due in September and at the moment, she just can’t fit.
FAREWELL to Kym Price from Head Above who has sold up and is heading out of town on an extended holiday with her son Hayden.
WE have to ask, is Palmwoods ready for this? Nelson Palmer has gone all the way with his latest art exhibition at Clio’s. Replacing the more sedate tones of an exhibition by Nell McLaren, mother-in-law of Hunchy Road resident Chris, is an exhibition of nudes arriving this week. Artists from all over the Sunshine Coast will be represented and Nelson remains unrepentant.
