COUNCIL BRIEFS

A PETITION tabled by Cr Geoff Littler from the residents of Pine Grove Road, Woombye, regarding installation of traffic calming devices in the area, has been referred to the Chief Executive Officer for investigation.

RESIDENTS who use the "back route" to Nambour via Menary and Coes Creek Roads, are reminded that roadworks are now currently underway and the Menary Road bridge will be closed until August.

AN application to rezone land in Lingara Avenue, Palmwoods, from Rural B to Residential A, deferred from the meeting of May 26, has again been deferred for discussion at the next Planning and Development Committee Meeting.

TENDERS have been accepted for the McKenzie and Cobbs Road sewerage scheme for the amount of $524,397.

THE Uniting Church in Church Street, Palmwoods has been granted approval for an extension to its meeting hall, adding indoor toilets and making a main entrance at the side of the church including a disabled person’s access.

AN application for a rural homesite subdivision at Chevallum School Road, Chevallum has been deferred and referred to the Planning and Development Department for further assessment.
Cr Littler said a similar application at Yandina had been approved on a sympathy vote. A resolution was then passed not allowing council to use discretion in such cases.

INSTRUCTIONS have been issued to the area foreman to slash and spray the left hand side road shoulder of Landershute Road from Citrus Road to Roys Road, following a request from the Palmwoods Progress Association pointing out that many joggers and horse riders used the area where there were no bikeways as yet.

LANDOWNERS are reminded that they can take responsibility for controlling weeds and grasses between their boundaries and roads.
The Restricted Roadside Herbicide Application Policy enables greater flexibility in the management of land between property boundaries and roads.
The policy seeks to establish co-operation between landholders and council to reduce the need for roadside maintenance, provide cost benefits to Council and provide a choice of maintenance for landholders.
If landowners do not wish to take this responsibility, Council reserves the right to control weeds by spraying.
Applications to Council to restrict herbicide spraying should be made in writing to the Chief Executive Officer, PO Box 76, Nambour. 4560.
Approved applicants will be provided with free signage for their properties which identify their property as not to be sprayed by Council workers.

RESIDENTS are also reminded that they are no longer required to put money in parking meters in Nambour.
