Compensation for last of injured firefighters
THE last of the four Palmwoods Rural Fire Brigade volunteers to be injured in the Bell’s Creek bush fire in November 1994, has now been compensated.
Terry Bobak, who with Neil Dingwall, Chris Robbins and Clive Gauldie was manning the Palmwoods Land Rover when it was engulfed by a wall of flame, received a settlement last week. Mr Bobak suffered severe burns to his legs in the fire. Settlement has already been reached with the other three volunteers.
A spokesman for Deputy Premier Joan Sheldon, said Mrs Sheldon had welcomed the successful resolution of the compensation negotiations. Under the terms of the settlement, the financial agreement must remain confidential.
Mrs Sheldon and Mr Borbidge met with Mr Bobak recently to make sure there would be no delay in receiving his compensation claim.
The settlement has also been welcomed by the Palmwoods Rural Fire Brigade. "We are pleased that we can now start to move forward and put this sorry episode in our history behind us," president Keith Golinski said.
