CONGRATULATIONS to Palmwoods’ grand couple Les and Vera Herse, who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 14, the exact day they tied the knot in 1947. They were guests of honour at a party at the Memorial Hall where Les is patron and Vera is close behind in long service. Les and Vera are very active members of the community, being involved over the years with everything from the CWA to the football club. Lots of family and friends turned up to help them celebrate. We all wish you continued health and happiness.

JOAN McMillan of Woombye has just returned from a trip that she had been looking forward to for many years - she decided that this was the year for her journey to Scandinavia.
The actual trip overwhelmed her expectations and she thoroughly enjoyed every aspect. Travelling by plane, train, bus and boat she was entranced by the people, the midnight sun and the beautiful scenery wherever she went. Joan is now back in Woombye and picking up the traces of her volunteer work as convenor of the Woombye Community Library and her involvement with the Palmwoods Singers.

TREVOR Eichmann went fishing! Trevor, also of Woombye, has an annual rendezvous with a school of fish at a special spot in the ocean off the coast of Gladstone. Trevor’s wife Isla can be sure that Trevor and his fishing mates will bring home a feed or three of lovely fish in time for Isla’s birthday.

FOR her winter holiday, Palmwoods Arts and Craft Group stalwart, Lillian Rice, travelled north with her son and his wife and family. Destination Cairns. Photography is one of Lillian’s many accomplishments and members of the various P.A.C.G. sections will be interested to see the album of photos that Lillian is bound to have on her return to Palmwoods.

WELL known and long time resident of Palmwoods, George Humphries, has had surgery to his eyes recently. George just can’t believe the improvement to his eyesight. We are all very pleased for you George.

ONCE again the CWA ladies of Palmwoods have done us proud. They were awarded the second prize in the CWA craft display at the Sunshine Coast Show. The Palmwoods branch of CWA comprises such a small number of members, yet they are forever active in the community, aiding good causes, holding functions and recently, catering for the field day held at Hunchy.
Some members recently attended the CWA State Conference in Brisbane, where Palmwoods’ member Marie Kretschmer is a steward in the cookery section of the State competitions that are held in conjunction with the conference.

CONGRATULATIONS to all Palmwoods and district people who gave their time and effort to participate as a helper or exhibitor at the Sunshine Coast Show.
Anne Baird and Margaret Bradburn of Eudlo, were forever busy in the main pavilion keeping dust and finger marks off the show cases. In the cut flower section, I noticed both first and second awards for carnations grown by John Marshall of Old Palmwoods Road. The beautifully knitted shawl exhibited by Maria Harkins of Rainforest Road won a second prize in the knitting competition.

GEOFF and Lorraine Currie of Kiel Mountain Road are justifiably proud of little grand daughter Kristie who won many awards in the equestrian arena. The time and effort expended by the Palmwoods Woombye Lions members who worked as traffic marshalls during the three day show also should be highly commended.
