Singers find new piano is grand

THE superb new grand piano at the hall made its debut when the Palmwoods Singers Theatrical Society presented the second of its 1997 quarterly concerts.

Residents of hostels and retirement villages were privileged to be the first to hear the group’s musical director and accompanist Marjorie Murray enjoy the luxury of playing the beautifully tuned instrument. Residents from Erowal, Teralba, Glebe and Immanuel Hostels and the Hibiscus Retirement Resort at Chancellor Park joined other members of the community to fill the hall.

They enjoyed selections from Lullaby of Broadway recently staged at Palmwoods. With the local school children presently on holidays, there was the added delight of their participation, and also of their parents help in the kitchen and back stage. The adults now look forward to performing in Maleny for the CWA’s International Day on July 18.

Practices are continuing for the annual licensed cabaret in September, titled "Pirates in Men’s Pants". All roles have been filled and there is much mirth and hilarity as this nonsensical nautical tale of intrigue on the stormy seas unfolds.

Performances are on Saturday, September 13 and Sunday 14, at Palmwoods Memorial Hall and at Beerwah on September 20. Phone 5445 9280 to be sure of a place.

A Spring Medley will be held on Wednesday, September 17 at the Palmwoods Memorial Hall at 9.30am, and morning tea will be served at 10.30am. Bookings are essential to ensure seating and catering.

The shows are especially for the frail, elderly, physically or intellectually impaired or the disadvantaged. The performances are fully costumed and visitors to previous shows have enjoyed the authentic theatre atmosphere.

The Palmwoods Memorial Hall has wheelchair access and toilet facilities and a suitable off-loading area for buses. Although there is no charge for the shows, small individual or group donations to assist with hall hire and catering would be gratefully received.

For bookings contact Joy Williams on 5445 9280 or Marjorie Murray on 5445 9257.
