COUNCIL BRIEFS

AN allocation of $8000 has been made for the relocation of the Palmwoods Community Recycling Centre.
Cr Geoff Littler said the allocation was made in the Budget to address continued problems of people dumping rubbish and non-recyclables and council was now actively seeking an alternate site for the centre.
Results of the customer survey recently undertaken at the Palmwoods Recycling Centre are still being collated.

THE district fared well in the Maroochy Shire Budget, with $40,000 allocated for the next stage of the Palmwoods Urban Improvement Project; $199,000 for improvements in Victory Park, Woombye and $200,000 for the upgrading of Highland Road, Eudlo. The $20,000 for a service lane off Blackall Street Woombye, allocated by the previous council, has been carried over.

THE rezoning of a 9118 square metre parcel of land on Lingara Avenue, Palmwoods from Rural B to Residential A has been approved.

COUNCIL will enact a Model Local Law to adopt a Pest Management Plan within the Shire, covering weeds, insects and animals. A working party has been established consisting of two councillors, three representatives from health, engineering and environmental services, three representatives from the Department of Primary Industries, Department of Natural Resource and Department of Environment and three community representatives.
The working party will actively research and improve declared pest management practices and processes within Maroochy Shire. The Interim Maroochy Pest Management Plan will seek to develop a balance between chemical, mechanical, physical and biological pest control.
