Palmwoods Progress news

THE PALMWOODS entry for the Nambour Sugar Festival Parade is the major project currently being undertaken by the Palmwoods Progress Association.

Final details are now being organised in preparation for the parade which will be held in Nambour on Saturday, August 9, from 12.30pm. The Palmwoods contingent will be led by the State School Band and will feature a model of the Memorial Hall in recognition of its 75th anniversary.

All groups are being invited to take part and anyone who would like to join the Palmwoods community effort are invited to contact the PPA committee within the next day or two, phone Bev Everson on 5445 0975 or Ron Corelli on 5445 9172.

Two of our very creative members have been busy building the fine replica of the hall. It has been designed to be used as a children’s play house later and will be raffled from the PPA Stall at Petrie Park after the procession. Tickets will also be available in Palmwoods, so watch for the ticket sellers.

Our thanks to Jim and Lyndal Cushing and Ray Knight for their magnificent effort.

Concerns have been raised with Main Roads regarding the need for directional signage to the highway for cars travelling down the range from Montville. The last meeting was told that many visitors get lost in Palmwoods and highway signage was needed.

Continuing representations will be made on the need for suitable signage for Palmwoods at the Nambour Connection Road-Bruce Highway exit.

The department has also been asked to provide a pedestrian refuge on the traffic island in front of the Palmwoods Post Office, to allow people to cross this wide section of Margaret Street in safety, particularly senior citizens.

The Palmwoods Heritage Walk plaques are now complete and will soon be placed on the various buildings with the much appreciated assistance of members of the Woombye Sunrise Rotary Club.

The Management Committee has appointed new member Ms Adrienne Houghton as Social Director for the PPA’s activities regarding social and fundraising.

The regular annual Australia Day celebration will next year be bigger than ever with more entertainers, the Palmwoods Australia Day Citizen Awards and for the first time, an Australian Citizenship Ceremony.

Palmwoods people who wish to take out Australian Citizenship should make application now so that it can be acknowledged at the Palmwoods ceremony. Please let the PPA know of your intention by writing to P.O. Box 181, Palmwoods 4555.

We always welcome new members to the Palmwoods Progress Association, so come on along to our next meeting on Thursday, August 14, at 7.30pm in the meeting room. Mark your calendar or diary now.
