SOCIAL NEWS

THE Sugar Festival Parade through Nambour on August 9 was a great event. It was also gratifying to see many `Palmwoodsians’ participating and representing their town and organisation in the parade, and afterwards at the festivities in Petrie Park. Special events are more memorable when people of the area participate. It makes the effort all the more enjoyable.

BOB Hoskins can not speak too highly of the staff at Nambour General Hospital who stabilised his condition, and the Prince of Wales Hospital, doctors and staff who performed the emergency surgery when he developed a perforated aorta. Bob came back to his Macdonalds Road home to recuperate just one week after his operation and is getting along the road to recovery extremely well. Bob’s good wife Pat has coped with the trauma extremely well also. Many district friends send best wishes for continued improvement.

SUGAR and spice an all that’s nice is apt for the baby girl born on July 23, at the Buderim Private Hospital. Proud parents are Wendy Smith and Nigel Madden of Hunchy Road who have named their first born Josie Lee. She is the first grandchild for Nigel’s parents, who formerly lived in Taronga Street, Palmwoods.

THE Woombye Community Library continues to grow from strength to strength. Cr Geoff Littler chaired the well attended annual general meeting in July, when Mrs Elaine Aston was elected to the position of convenor. June Dorsett was re-elected secretary and Henny Sweet will take over the duties of treasurer. Cr Littler thanked all the volunteers who staff the library, especially thanking Mrs Joan Macmillan (retiring convenor) and Mrs Judi Biddington (past treasurer) for their dedication to the library over the preceding years. Currently, there are over 420 individual members who belong to the community library, and these borrowers can choose books from over 1070 different authors of fiction novels plus an extensive non-fiction section. The library also subscribes to many popular periodicals which are sought after by the borrowers. There is a very well stocked junior library facility which is eagerly supported by the youngsters of the district.
