Community News Growing Brownies seek leaders DUE to an increase in numbers, the Palmwoods Brownies and Guides are seeking extra helpers. The Brownies are looking for a unit helper, who will be either someone wanting to become a Brownie member and wear the uniform, or a community member who would just like to lend a hand. If you have a special talent for craft or sport, or anything you think might interest the girls, phone Margaret Smith on 5442 1706 for further details. The Girl Guides, aged 10 to 15, also require a leader. There are currently only two girls in the Guide group, but a number of Brownies are looking to graduate into the older age group next year. Guides do more physical activities such as camping, canoeing and abseiling, than Brownies. Anyone interested should contact Josie Fry on 5442 2417. The organisation is also looking for a district leader to liaise between the parents and leaders. Everyone is invited to attent the group's AGM to be held in the hut, Montville Road, Palmwoods on Wednesday, October 29, at 7.30pm. A light supper will be served after the meeting. Probus meeting The monthly meeting of Woombye Probus Club will be held on November 24, at 9.30 a.m. at the Woombye Bowls Club. On November 10, members and guests are off for a day out. First stop will be at Pomona at the Majestic Theatre for morning tea and the show Dad and Dave. The group will head on to Boreen point for a picnic lunch. Members found last week's guest speaker Ron Blackman from the Cancer group interesting and informative. Don McClusky moved a vote of thanks to Ron and this was seconded by all present. Rostrum speaking The Nambour Rostrum group meets in the primary school staff room of the Nambour Christian College in Woombye on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 6.15 pm. A short time of refreshment is set aside in the evening's program. Rostrum is the oldest established public speaking organisation in Australia. CWA combination THE November meeting of the Palmwoods Branch of the QCWA will be held on Thursday 20, at 9.30am. There will be a bring and buy stall with a Christmas theme. This will be followed by Christmas lunch and fellowship. More than 30 people turned up for the combined AGM of the Palmwoods and Woombye branches of the CWA. Guest of honour was state vice-president Jan Ross. It was noted that the Woombye branch of the CWA will celebrate its 70th anniversary in 1999 while the Palmwoods branch will be 65. In the Woombye election, Betty Delaney was elected president with Jay Thompson, Trish Musk, Anne Farrow and Vi Kuskopf vice-presidents; Viiu Benson secretary, Maria Harkins treasurer and Glad Domin handicraft convenor. For Palmwoods, Rhoda Mathies was returned as president with Beryl Guppy, Vera Herse, Beryl Price and Merle Schleusener as vice-presidents; Marie Kretschmer as secretary, Trish Littler as treasurer and Norma Audsley international convenor. Mathies Uniting break-up THE Palmwoods Uniting Church Adult Fellowship is having its breakup for the year on November 11, at 11am, followed by lunch. At the morning service at the Uniting Church on Sunday November 9, at 10am, the Maleny Choir will be presenting a Christmas Cantata in song and verse. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy a program of Christmas music. Radio Rhema RADIO Rhema will be broadcasting until Sunday, November 9. The program for this month includes KIDS J.A.M on Sunday afternoons from 5-6pm. Golden Oldies goes to air on Thursday evenings for older listeners. Most of Radio Rhema's regular programs and Christian music will also be on again. Phone 5442 2833 if you would like to have a program guide sent out. |
