Flowers and Plants AFTER the lovely rain it is a good time to mulch around the shrubs and add compost to garden beds while the digging is easier. Clean out the spring flowering beds now so you can plant for summer, autumn or rest the beds for winter flowers and vegies. Many excess winter flowering shrubs are available at discount prices after flowering - some nurseries don't wish to hold them till next year so it's a good time to buy. Also in the nurseries are lots of unusual flowering pot plants and shrubs so brighten up your home with these. Seen on a visit to the Interflora Conference recently were such beautiful cold climate flowers as peonies, lilac, weeping white bloom, white dogwood and most delicate of all - lily of the valley. The entrants in their competitions did a magnificent job. Congratulations to Interflora members for staging such a grand event. |
