Recycling centre move welcomed

THE Palmwoods Community Recycling Centre, which has become an unsightly dumping ground at the entrance to the railway station, is to close on December 1.

The news has been welcomed by the Palmwoods Progress Association which has been actively campaigning for the situation to be resolved for more than two years.

"The centre has been constantly abused, with people dropping off all sorts of household litter rather than using the facility for its intended purpose of recycling," president Ron Corelli said.

"We have dealt with numerous complaints of the centre creating an eyesore even from the main street. We were further concerned when skip bins were placed at the site which merely confirmed it as a dump."

A new Community Recycling Centre is to be established on the road reserve of the Palmwoods Eudlo Road, about 500 metres south of Bamboo Road.

Mr Corelli said the new location would better service the residents of Eudlo who were considered one of the largest user groups.

He said one of the PPA's biggest concerns had been for the Scouts who were assigned to keep the centre clean and tidy as a form of fundraising for the group.

"Hopefully the change of location will allow the Scouts to continue with this valuable form of fundraising but will also resolve our problems of moving this eyesore out of town," he said.

"It did not belong in such a prominent position at the entrance to town and the railway station."
