COUNCIL BRIEFS

NUMEROUS complaints have been made recently regarding a significant increase in nuisance in the Woombye area. Cr Geoff Littler said many Woombye residents were lodging complaints with him regarding undesirable activity in the main street, particularly "hoons doing wheelies". Council has written to police asking for particular attention to be given to this activity when patrolling the area and asking for additional patrols in the Woombye area. A letter was also forwarded to the officer in charge of Sunshine Coast traffic branch seeking assistance.

THERE will be interruptions to traffic on Diddillibah Road this month for road reconstruction on a narrow section of existing bitumen extending westerly for 400 metres from the Bruce Highway overpass bridges. Maximum delays of 10 minutes can be expected.

TOWN planning approvals this month include establishment of a home occupation (hairdressing studio) at Corlis Avenue Eudlo and a retail plant nursery at Olsen Road Eudlo.

COUNCIL has provided funding for the Woombye-Palmwoods Lions Club to establish a flagpole at the Palmwoods Riding for the Disabled. Cr Littler said Federal Member for Fairfax Alex Somlyay had recently presented the group with a flag.

APPROVAL has been granted for the Palmwoods Singers to conduct their annual Carols by Candlelight in Briggs Park on Thursday, December 24.

THE Vigoro Club is seeking to have the Jubilee Drive fields named Jubilee Park.

DISCUSSIONS are to be held with Telstra with a view to relocating the mini-exchange in the park. If the exchange cannot be relocated, its location will be incorporated within a concept plan for the park now being drawn up. The issue is being given a top priority.

A COLLECTION campaign for unwanted and illegally dumped vehicles is being carried out during November. Residents can have vehicles collected form their properties at a cost of $20 a vehicle, provided they are accessible by a standard tilt tray tow truck. Nominations close Friday, November 7.

Residents who wish to report illegally dumped vehicles can do so by phoning council's Environment Services Branch on 5441 8170. A number of the collected vehicles will be used by the Queensland Fire and Rescue Authority in the Queensland Road Accident Rescue Championships, to be held at the Nambour Showground on November 15. These and other vehicles will then be crushed and transported to Brisbane for recycling.

MAROOCHY Shire Council is calling for nominations from the community for its 1998 Australia Day awards. Nominations, which close on Friday, November 28, are in eight categories with winners to be accounted at presentation ceremonies in Nambour and Maroochydore on Australia Day, Monday, January 26, 1998. Nomination forms are available from the council's events officer Anita Pitcher 5441 8473.

STOCK owners have been reminded that it is illegal for their animals to stray on to Council roadways.

Horses and cattle are inclined to roam in search of greener feed at this time of year, and can become a danger to commuters. Council Officers have recently impounded several animals and issued infringement penalty notices on offending owners.

In the interest of public safety and convenience to adjoining and owners, people keeping stock on their property should check their fencing to ensure that their animals will not escape on to public roadways. Under Council's Local Law on the spot fines of $120 can be issued to offending stock owners.
