TOP OF THE CLASS

TWO teachers from the Woombye State School have received awards for outstanding work as part of the National Excellence in Teaching Awards.

Year One teacher Desley Johnson and Year Five teacher Amanda Hooper were nominated by the local community for their dedication to teaching.

Woombye Principal Rob Edmonds said only one teacher in every 100 was nominated for the awards which are run by the National Excellence in Teaching Foundation, and not all nominations were accepted.

"To have two teachers nominated and accepted by NEITA at this level is a fantastic achievement for our school," Mr Edmonds said. "It is a reflection of the high calibre staff we have teaching at the school."

Ms Johnson has been teaching at Woombye for 14 years, and Mrs Hooper for nine years. Mr Edmonds said he expected Ms Johnson and Mrs Hooper to continue through to the regional and national award finals.

"They are both outstanding teachers who show excellence in their fields," he said.
