Editor -

My wife and I have recently moved to Palmwoods to be close to our family in retirement due to illness. We have found that there is no area for the young people to use their skateboards, which is a growing recreational activity for the young. During the recent school holidays I found all ages from the very young to 15 years and older boys using steep private driveways and out of way roads to set up ramps for skateboarding.

With the school holidays it is very hard for working parents to get their children to centres where they have these facilities and I believe that some parents are not aware that their children are using public roads etc, to use their skateboards.

While school is now back it will not be long before the Christmas period and school breaks up for the year.

If the whole community, clubs and local council can come up with a solution to the problem and build a suitable area for this activity it may save a possible fatality of one of our previous young children apart from the fact that using skateboards on public roads is illegal.

If we simply take the skate-boards away from the children it could lead to petty crime.
