Woombye P.O. moves THE Woombye Post Office has relocated to a new home in the centre of town, after 63 years in its site near the Woombye Hotel. It is now more central to the action in Blackall Street, between the co-op and the dress shop. Post Office licensee Judi Biddington said the lease on the old post office building had run out, and the time had come to move closer into town. "Many people had been asking for the post office to be moved to town to make it more accessible," Judi said. "We now have a much larger premises, with better facilities including wheel chair access and off-street parking." Judi said the post office moved to its location near the hotel in 1934 to encourage use of the hotel. "That's the story we have heard from the locals," Judi said. "It would appear the owner thought the post office would increase his turnover." Judi and husband Paul have run the Woombye Post Office for the past four years. "The people of Woombye are really easy to get along with, and we have really enjoyed our time here," she said. |
