Our leader in the navy

FORMER Palmwoods State School student Jillian Philo,19, has been named the most outstanding of the Australian Navy's June intake of recruits.

Jillian attended primary school in Palmwoods before heading to Burnside State High for her secondary education.

Jillian was also an active member and junior leader of the Palmwoods Guides, and worked for more than two years at the Tropico Fruit Juice Factory in Palmwoods as a lab assistant.

She joined the Navy on June 10, 1997 to train in Marine Science and was one of only seven applicants from across Australia to be selected for this highly sought after course.

Jillian has completed a 12 week intensive recruit training course, for which she was awarded the Most Outstanding Recruit of the intake in the Passing out Parade in August.

Following her first recruit course, Jillian completed a Seamanship course, and will soon be transferred to HMAS Penguin in Sydney to study marine science.

Jillian is expected to be posted to Cairns to continue her career after finishing the course in Sydney.
