IT’S time to tune up your voices and bring out the candles for the Christmas Eve Carols by Candlelight which has become a popular annual event in Palmwoods.

Presented by the Palmwoods Singers, the Carols started at Kolora Park but are now held at Briggs Park to cater for the ever-increasing crowd.

Group Musical Director Marjorie Murray expects about 1500 people to turn up this year.

"We had a huge crowd last year, and we expect to beat that number this year," she said. "We will have the same successful formula, with all the crowd pleasers back, such as the live nativity scene which is very popular with all the visitors."

Whoever happens to have a baby at the right time plays the Mary and Jesus role.

The carols are a non-commercial venture, supported by the Lions Club.

Carol sheets and candles are provided free for everyone, but visitors should bring their own picnic blankets or chairs.

They are also invited to come a bit earlier and enjoy a picnic dinner before the program starts.

The Carols by Candlelight concert will begin at 7pm on Christmas Eve, December 24, at Briggs Park, Palmwoods.
