MRS Norma Audsley of Jubilee Drive has been elected president of the Nambour and North Coast Division of the Country Women’s Association.

As divisional president, Norma, an active member of the CWA since 1959, will visit each of the 17 CWA branches of the division at least twice in the year - a daunting task as the division extends from Cooran to Kenilworth and Peachester.

As divisional president, she becomes a CWA State Council committee member and will be obliged to attend their four day council meetings in Brisbane twice yearly.

Originally from Victoria, Norma and her late husband Frank and the family moved to their property in Jubilee Drive in 1971. They immediately became involved in the clubs and organisations of the community.

Norma and Frank served on the Sunshine Coast Show Society committee for over 10 years, and Norma has over 40 years of Red Cross membership to her credit.

She is one of those people who sees a need and will hop in and help when the need arises, be it under the banner of an organisation or something completely personal, she is seen lending a hand in many large and small situations.

THERE is nothing quite like a garden party to lure the ladies to enjoy the company of friends and chat in convivial surroundings.

The Garden Party and Fashion Parade that was held at Doug and Sue Montagu’s lovely home and garden on Old Palmwoods Road was such a function.

"Children's Fashions", created by Palmwoods resident Helen Milligan and modelled by some very catwalk competent tiny tots were wonderful in their vibrant and bright styles.

The ladies fashions, classic garments, fashionably styled for ladies of all ages were paraded through the garden and drew many admiring comments.

The garden party was organised by the capable members of the Nambour Zonta Club who served Devonshire Teas to the patrons who were seated at tables in the garden and about the swimming pool. Lee Renton and Maureen Martin enjoyed the afternoon with their friends at a table by the pool while Cheryl Marshall viewed the parade from under a shady umbrella.

Iris Moore of Palmwoods was there with her sister Muriel Richards of Mapleton. Isla Eichman and her table of friends were to the fore with fashionable shady hats. Barbara Percival and Helene King also let their shady hats defy the sun’s rays while they enjoyed the parade. All monies raised (over $1000) by the Zonta Club from the Garden Party and the multi-draw raffle went to support the Skin Bank at the Burns Unit at the Royal Brisbane Hospital.

THE Woombye Community Library volunteers enjoyed their pre Christmas luncheon on November 25. Your community library will continue to provide a good service to the residents of the whole area.

At the Christmas luncheon, the convenor, Mrs Elaine Aston thanked the volunteers for their continuing support in all aspects of the library administration and wished all present the joys of the Christmas season.

The library at Woombye will be closed from Christmas Eve until after New Year’s day so borrowers are reminded to come in and choose their holiday reading before Christmas.

During the coming festive season let us all remember the local business people who throughout the year have been so generous when asked to donate prizes or in other ways support the many raffles, trivia nights, and all the other fund raising services organised in this community. We "dips our lid" to you all. With our thanks is our wish for a very joyous Christmas and a prosperous and happy New Year.

NOT even the steaks were burning when members of the Palmwoods Rural Fire Brigade, Hunchy Road residents and assorted others got together to help First Officer Dennis Creasey to celebrate his 50th birthday on November 22. It wasn’t a place for weight watchers as his wife Dawn and two daughters turned on a feast from start to finish, making it obvious that there was a chef in the family somewhere. Despite the walking stick he received as a gift, Dennis still managed to blow out his candles in a great night for all.

FROM all accounts of those who attended the piano recital by acclaimed international pianist Bernadette Balkus at the Memorial Hall last month, it was a coup for Palmwoods to host such talent. It was also a big introduction for the new grand piano. Bernadette just happens to be the niece of Geoff and Trish Littler.
