Teachers aim to bridge primary to high gap

THE move from primary to high school can be difficult for many students, but Woombye Primary School and Burnside High School are joining forces to help make the transition to secondary education easier.

Burnside teachers Doug Paterson, Leanne Humphries, Terry Di Pasquale and Yola Webster visited Woombye State School last month, to find out what the Year Seven students had been learning.

The teachers examined the Woombye curriculum and liaised with Woombye teachers Lee Emerson, Helen Emery, and Palmwoods State School's Chris Poingdestre to ensure students would experience continuity of learning between primary and high school.

The Burnside teachers took particular interest in the way Woombye had integrated computers into the school curriculum.

Woombye Year Seven students use computers regularly and the school has recently connected to the Internet.
