A road by any other name

It's official. The problem of when the road loosely known as the Woombye-Montville Road becomes Palmwoods Road or even Margaret Street, is solved.

The Maroochy Shire Council has approved the following names for what is currently - and confusingly - known as Woombye-Montville Road.

The section commencing at the intersection with the Nambour Connection Road and ending at the railway bridge intersecting with Jubilee Drive is now the Woombye-Palmwoods Road.

From here until the intersection with Churchill street, it becomes Margaret Street. It then continues to Balmoral Road - the Maleny-Montville Road - as Palmwoods Montville Road.

Previously identified by Main Roads as the Woombye Montville Road for its length from the Connection Road to Montville, it was creating problems with identification and numbering.

"Council's street numbering officers advised that some properties were using the same address on different sections of this road which obviously caused problems for all concerned," Cr Geoff Littler said. "The logical sulution was to name the roads in a more definable manner."

Margaret Street currently ends at the Fewtrell street intersection, however as there were properties named and numbered beyond this point using "Margaret" it was considered timely to incorporate the extension to Churchill street as part of the overall change.

While this action will require change in address for some 200 properties, it is felt that the long-term benefits of improved property identification outweigh the short-term inconvenience of a change in address," Cr Littler said.
