SOCIAL NEWS COME one, come all to the cookery, knitting and crochet competitions to be held at the Woombye School of Arts supper room on Tuesday, March 10. Entries for these competitions, organised by the Woombye branch of the QCWA, are accepted from both male and female members of the public. So you of the male gender who consider you can turn out a better jam drop or knitted article, than the little lady can produce, put your expertise to the test. Phone now for all relevant information of the various categories to Viiu on 5442 1161 or Marie on 5445 9936. Doors will be opened to the public at 9.30am and a delicious morning tea will be served at 10am. A fabulous selection of garments from "Woombye Fashion" will be paraded and the winner of the lucky door prize will be announced. A very interesting morning for all is assured, for the all inclusive price of just $2.50. STUDENTS from Nambour and Burnside State High schools, the Christian Outreach College at Woombye and the Nambour Christian College have volunteered to assist with the Statewide "Red Cross Calling" door knock appeal. The appeal, this year commences on Saturday March 21 through to Sunday 29. The Nambour branch of Red Cross will be co-ordinating the collection of donations in the Palmwoods and Woombye areas. Nambour Christian College students will be canvassing various areas of Palmwoods and Woombye on Wednesday March 25, and the students of the Christian Outreach College will be knocking on the doors of the district on Thursday 26. These great young people will be dressed in school uniform and will have the official Red Cross collectors identification and receipt books. They will be in small groups, often with an adult member of the school staff. Extra volunteers are always needed so if you have an hour or two to spare during the appel period, please phone Margaret Andrews on 5445 9385 and indicate the street or road you could canvas. Margaret can co-ordinate that area so that it does not overlap areas canvassed by the students. She will also supply the official identification disc and receipt book. Please give generously of your time and talents to aid the Red Cross appeal. AQUARIAN Trish Swindells had a very good reason to celebrate with a party at her home on Saturday February 21. Trish has reached the half century. Family and friends congregated at her Hunchy Road home to help her celebrate her birthday in a grand way. |
