Palmwoods Progress news

DISCUSSION centred around the successful 10th Australia Day celebration at Kolora Park at a well attended Palmwoods Progress Association meeting on Thursday, February 12.

It was recommended that next year the breakfast begin earlier at 7am or 7.15am and entertainment follow prior to the official activities.

There were 230 breakfasts served to adults and 70 to children, which indicated a slightly lower attendance than the previous year. This was attributed to Australia Day falling on a long weekend. According to many comments from those who can be called the annual regulars, the quality of activities was better than in previous years.

One of the outstanding presentations was the Flight 7 Australian Air Training Corps who officially opened the Naturalisation Ceremony by raising the Flags of Australia and Queensland in a very professional manner. Their personal bearing and presentation on the day set a strong example for today’s youth.

"As an old ex-RAAF veteran of the Second World War, I was very proud of them and those in command," President Ron Corelli said.

Further discussion was held regarding the Palmwoods Local Area Plan and another letter was recorded to be sent to the Study Team through Council. The PPA is still not satisfied that its recommendations are being noted as it has not received any acknowledgment of any of its correspondence since the consultants began.

Members recorded their feelings of the Maroochy Shire Council’s proposal in their Corporate Plan to make changes to the existing Strategic Plan presently in place. A motion was put and carried that no significant changes can be made to the Strategic Plan.

Further discussion included road flooding under the rail bridge in recent heavy rains and some aspects of the railway station intersection construction work and the possible need for a turning lane.

Members, friends and residents of Palmwoods are reminded the next meeting, on Thursday, March 12, at 7.30pm, will be the last opportunity to join this association prior to its annual general meeting on April 9. The present Executive will be standing down and nominations for all positions will be vacant.

Nominations must be in writing, signed by a member and seconded and lodged with the secretary 14 days prior to the meeting.

If residents have any concern for their township and its future it is strongly recommended that they give deep and sincere thought to having a say and input in the community through the Palmwoods Progress Association.

Anyone wishing to volunteer their expertise to the management committee should come forward now and join.

"One evening a month is very little to ask or to give to your community," Mr Corelli said.
