Leo shows way ahead
EVERYTHING you ever wanted to know about permaculture but were afraid to ask, will be made clear at the Palmwoods Permaculture Exhibition on Saturday, April 25. Permaculture designer Leo Mahon said permaculture, a technique for conserving and restoring the earth, was based on the conscious design and maintenance of agriculturally productive ecosystems. "Its all to do with soil fertility and food production to maintain a permanent culture," Mr Mahon said. "We are basically trying to mimic the natural ecosystems." Mr Mahon has been working with permaculture for four years and working as a professional designer for 12 months. "Permaculture is multi-faceted," he said. "Its a way of arranging selected plant species to grow in harmony and such a system by design, is capable of supplying you with part or all of your food, fuel and shelter requirements." The permaculture exhibition will be at Paskins Road from 8am to 5pm on Anzac Day and will include guest speakers for a range of topics, food forest tours, cooking lessons, demonstrations and a small livestock auction. Other facilities and entertainment includes picnic grounds, garden musicians, art house book shop, tea and cake house, spice shop and herb and vegetable seedling stalls. Admission is $8.00 at the gate but tickets are limited and advance tickets are now available at Ticketek. |
