Pick a point to see train HUNDREDS of spectators are expected to crowd vantage points along the main north coast rail line when an historic train steams travels through on Saturday, April 4. Residents of Eudlo, Palmwoods and Woombye will have the opportunity to see the return of the grand era of steam train travel as the historic locomotive steams through the hinterland on its way north to Gympie and Rockhampton. The steam train will then be heading west to Longreach and Winton for the inaugural Easter in the Outback Festival. While the train trip will be a once in a lifetime adventure for passengers, it is also a rare opportunity for local residents to claim the best spots to see the "Brown Bomber", a 1950s C17 engine. It was one of the last locomotives to be built in Queensland and is scheduled to pull the train with vintage wooden carriages. The carriages were built in 1905 and feature open platforms, polished timber interiors with pressed metal ceilings and authentic lacework gates which will allow passengers to relive the romance of rail travel during the turn of the century. The train is scheduled to pass through Nambour at approximately 10.30am so local crowds should start looking for a viewing point soon after 10am. |
