POLICE BEAT
WITH SNR CONSTABLE PAUL CAMPBELL

A COMPUTER at the Palmwoods State School malfunctioned and caught fire last month, causing smoke damage to two classrooms. It was lucky that the classroom was not razed. It is unsure at this stage if the classroom had been fitted with an earth leakage unit (ELU). It is wise for residents to have their electrical goods checked and ensure an ELU is fitted, to prevent electrical faults causing serious fires occurring in the home.

FROM time to time we have a number of reports of noisy trail bikes on rural properties where motocross tracks have been made and used by private landowners. From the beginning of this year, the Environmental Protection Act which encompasses the Noise Abatement Act, has come into force. It is wise to note that excessive noise from motorbikes is covered under this new Act and non-compliance can carry severe fines. To avoid complaints, ensure noisy bikes are silenced.

A MINOR accident occurred at the intersection of Main Street and Hill Street last week when a vehicle turned in front of an oncoming vehicle. The accident occurred in the area where buses load and unload school children and extra care should be taken in this area.

THERE has been an attempted break-in at the rear entrance of Palmwoods Takeaway. The offenders broke through an outside door but were unable to gain entry through a steel inside security door. If anyone has information, please call Palmwoods Police.

A 1988 model Ford Fairmont Ghia was stolen from outside the Main Street Cafe during the early hours last week. Enquiries are continuing.

It wasn't just a friendly visit when the fire engine arrived
at Palmwoods State School early one morning last month.
Both the Nambour Brigade and Palmwoods Rural Fire Brigade were alerted
when the school cleaner arrived to find smoke coming from a classroom.
