Art & Craft group news

PALMWOODS Arts and Crafts Group member Joy Hutton, an experienced artist in paper manipulation, displayed samples of her work at the monthly meeting at The Shed on Wednesday, March 4.

Joy uses a range of techniques involving the use of boot polish, salt, Indian inks, sugar and a variety of teas and has kindly offered to share her skills on Thursday April 30. The workshop will start at 9.30am finishing at 3pm.

The next monthly meeting is to be held on April 1, and Joy will have a list of requirements to be brought to the workshop. The unusual paper produced can be used in bookmaking, card making, covers for books, giftwrap, or special writing paper.

Calligraphy classes have commenced with instructions on the use of versal capitals. Classes will be held regularly on the second Monday and fourth Wednesday of each month commencing at 1pm and finishing at 3pm. For more information contact Joan Lilley, 54450654.

The first "Drawing with Kay" get-together proved to be popular and due to the enthusiasm and success of the class, Kay will be holding the classes every second week. However, the classes will be on the same day as Lorraine’s fabric painting, so members wishing to attend both classes should note that fabric painting will be from 9.30am to noon, and drawing with Kay from 1-3pm.

The smocking workshop is to be held on Wednesday, April 22, the usual embroidery day. A kit will be available to all those interested in joining this introduction to smocking. Anyone wishing to attend should register with Barbara, 54459660, so that the correct number of kits can be prepared.

Overall cost of the morning will be $20. The workshop will be conducted by Victoria, and the article to work on will be a coat hanger.

The folk art morning is to be held at The Shed on April 17, starting at 9.30am and finishing at noon.

Anyone wishing know more about activities and workshops offered by the Palmwoods Arts and Crafts should contact Lillian Rice, 54450602.
