Littler commends PPA PALMWOODS Progress Association, at its annual general meeting last month, was commended by Cr Geoff Littler for its interest in the town during the past year. Cr Littler said although small in numbers, the association had brought a number of matters to his attention, such as school bus problems, the numerous stark rock walls in the town area and a push for entry statements at both sides of the town area. He said the entry statements would not proceed until council had adopted its Local Area Plan so that there would not be any conflict. He said the recycling centre, which the PPA had actively lobbied against in the centre of town, would not be replaced as council had now adopted a policy of installing wheely bins as far as possible in the area. "It was pleasing to see the large number of people who turned up for Clean Up Australia Day, with all clubs and organisations in the area giving a hand," he said. Cr Littler said it had been interesting to note that the council depot and the railway stations at Palmwoods and Woombye had been most in need of a clean up. He said he was also finding it difficult at the moment to respond to requests in a prompt and efficient manner. "There have been a lot of changes taking place in council, making it very difficult for me to respond so I hope you will all bear with me," he said. Cr Littler pointed to a recent request for pot plants in the main street of Eudlo. "Seven days after I put in the request to Parks, I was told that this was now the responsibility of infrastructure services in the engineering section. Another eight days later I was told that there was no money and I would have to put a resolution to council to change the budget," he said. "I dont know how much it costs for a council meeting but the discussion time spent on this would have more than paid for the to pots to go in. It is very difficult," he said. Cr Littler also reported that the Frank Nicklin memorial clock had now been repaired and was keeping accurate time. New hands for the clock had to be brought from Melbourne. "I am hoping that once the LAP comes to council in about two months time, but I cannot guarantee the time frame, that we will start to get a few things done in Palmwoods and get back on track," he said. Cr Littler also commended the association on its project to celebrate the turn of the century and said he was most impressed by the attractive terracotta tiles chosen. |
