Woombye Probus THE Probus Club of Woombye welcomed 31 members to its April meeting, the first with the new committee at the helm and its success augurs well for the year. President Don McGlusky presented the Woombye Bowls Clubs Joy Webber with a certificate of appreciation and thanked her for the assistance given to Probus during its first year of operation. Guest speaker was Mrs Benny Alcorn who gave a most interesting talk on Thomas OConnor, one of the founding fathers of Maroochydore. He had visions of turning the Sunshine Coast into a mecca for tourists. Unfortunately there remains little historical trace of his ever being in the area. His remains lie in an unmarked grave in the Buderim cemetery. Members are looking forward to the outing on May 11, a trip on the Noosa Queen. The next meeting will be May 25. For further information about Probus in Woombye, phone secretary Joan Cuddihy 54760069. |
