SOCIAL NEWS GARDEN lovers are welcome to attend a full day coach trip that is being organised by
local Red Cross members. The excursion is set for September 10, and will take in the
highlights of the Laidley Chelsea Festival CONGRATULATIONS to the Palmwoods District News trivia team which, under the name of Big Enchiladas, claimed first prize at the Woombye State School's recent trivia night which had a Mexican theme. The Palmwoods District News will now hold an impressive trophy introduced for the first time this year, until the team returns to take on challengers next year. The team included Joanne Lockwood nee Buchanan, a Woombye State School student of the 1960s, journalist Lilymay Cheung, sister Kim and husband Mark, Janelle Humphreys of Winston Road and Terry Everson whose wife Bev was a long-term employee at the News. THE Red Cross volunteers have a lot of fun raising funds for their many causes. Recently a "Pie in the Sky" Dinner was held at the Red Cross rooms in Nambour. Throughout the evening diners were entertained by the Red Cross Singers a wonderful group of entertainers who turn their talents to charitable causes. Monies raised from the evening will be used for local projects undertaken by Red Cross. MRS May Haupt has been confined to barracks of late. May was out walking, with friends on the Coast, when she tripped on some uneven paving. She suffered a badly broken arm. After many xrays and a stint in hospital May now sports a plaster cast from shoulder to wrist. An impediment to Mays normal active life, but the fall which caused so much trouble to her arm has done absolutely no damage to her laughing apparatus. We all wish May a trouble free and quick recovery. VISITING Palmwoods for a few weeks is Doreen Wright from Oxford, England. Doreen is spending her holiday with her brother Tony and his wife Jane. Retired from her position as a teacher to children admitted to an orthopaedic hospital, Doreen has since founded a Child Contact Centre at Oxford. A centre where children are cared for during supervised visits by a noncustodial parent. Doreen was interested to learn that the Sunshine Coast also has a Child Contact Centre in operation. This is Doreens second holiday in Australia. DON'T forget to mark your calendar for the Nambour Red Cross Chelsea Flower Show staged in conjunction with the Sunshine Coast Garden Expo for the first weekend in July. This years theme "Come Into Our Garden" promises a spectactular exhibit. |
