Lions Lines THE current Lions year, led by President Gordon Percival, is drawing to a close. Trevor Eichmann will be installed as president from 1 July. Gordon's leadership during the past year has been very commendable. Membership has increased and many successful projects have been completed. In the past 11 months a total of 2047 service hours have been logged. Almost half of this time has been devoted to fundraising. A further 480 hours were used in assistance to numerous needs such as the Lions Emergency Accomodation Centre (Nambour), local schools, Riding for the Disabled (Palmwoods), White Cane Dinner to name a few. The balance of time was taken up in many and varied ways which ultimately related to the first of the Lions objects: "to create and foster a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world". The funds raised have been made available to many needy causes, locally and the wider scene including medical research and sight preservation. No monies raised in the name of a Lions fundraising project can be used by members for administration of the club. These costs are covered by members dues or donations for that purpose. The next fundraiser is the annual Lions auction on July 26. We look forward to community support by donated goods, goods to be sold on consignment or just by your attendance on the day at the Old Chevallum School. |
