Guides call for helpers CALLING all Girl Guides. Guides Australia are endeavouring to strengthen the guiding movement and are seeking adult leaders so that girls in Palmwoods can continue to enjoy and benefit from the Guides. There are now only 10 girl guides and two leaders in Palmwoods, with one leader "on loan" from another district. With mainly younger girls as Guides members, the 11 years and older age bracket has been postponed due to a lack of leaders. Region Commissioner Josie Fry said the Guides needed women who could make the commitment to the adult team of leaders for the girls. The Guides participate in a range of activities including the great outdoors, camping, music and drama, arts and crafts and organised weekends away. Guiding Australia is currently undergoing structural changes in an effort to bring the association more in line with the needs of girls today. The Guides is essentially a voluntary organisation where volunteers manage the program and volunteers have a "direct say" in the development of this worldwide organisation. For further information regarding leadership in the Guiding Association contact Josie Fry on 5442 2417. |
