Senior meets juniors
WOOMBYE State School introduced some of its youngest pupils to the communitys seniors for fun, games, a performance and morning tea for the benefit of both groups. Elderly nursing home residents spent the morning with the schools Year One students in a partnership which brought out the best in both groups. Teachers Desley Johnson and Jean Parry came up with the concept which not only brightens the day of the elderly visitors but also provides an audience for the children. "It involves the community, and older people in particular, with the school and at the same time provides valuable interaction between the young and the old," Principal Rob Edmonds said. "The visitors spent the morning listening to the children and after morning tea joined them doing the hokey pokey." It was a fitting finale when the Year Ones presented "Show me the Way to go Home." |
