Indoor bowls in Woombye

THE Woombye Indoor Bowls Club is one of the longest established clubs still operating on the Sunshine Coast.

It was formed by 15 interested local residents on February 17, 1961, giving bowlers the opportunity to play bowls indoors away from the weather.

"Many people are unaware of our existence, particularly new residents," spokesman Fred Logan said.

"It is virtually the same game as played outdoors, except that it is played on 24 foot mats. The same bias bowls are used and bowls are supplied.

The club plays every Friday night starting at 7.30pm in the Woombye School of Arts. Over the years it has become known as the "friendly club".

If you would like to try, the first night is free. The club will help and give free tuition if needed and any age can play - young, old and in-between.

Normal fees are $2 a night for three games and supper is supplied. Annual membership is $5.

Most nights are social bowls but during the year there are singles and pairs competitions. Further information is available from Mr Logan on 5441 4238.
