POLICE BEAT
WITH SNR CONSTABLE PAUL CAMPBELL

THE recent arrest of a Nambour man will hopefully stop the number of break and enters occurring in the Palmwoods area of late. A search warrant was executed on the man’s residence after an investigation by Palmwoods and Nambour Police led to the identity and location of the offender. He has been charged with a number of offences in the Palmwoods area, including two break and enters on a police officer’s residence.

THERE have been a number of minor accidents around Palmwoods, with two of these occurring a week apart, both involving men from the same street in Conondale. The men recorded blood alcohol levels of 0.17 and 0.2. Further patrols and random breath testing by Palmwoods Police and Sunshine Coast Traffic branch will be conducted on Friday and Saturday nights. If in doubt, don’t drive, but arrange your lift home before you go out.

IN a more serious accident, Thelma Steinhardt, 66, of Palmwoods died in hospital as a result of injuries sustained when her car struck a tree at Lemon Grove Park. Inquiries are still continuing with the Traffic Investigation Squad at Nambour. Further investigations will be carried out to find the possible cause of the accident.

THERE are still some local residents trying to run the gauntlet of crossing the railway lines between Eudlo Road and Paskins Road. This foolish practice will eventually lead to a fatality as cars and four wheel drives are simply unable to cross the raised railway lines. Just because you have a FWD doesn’t mean it will go everywhere.
One local resident was very lucky when his FWD became stuck on the lines and with the help of some locals was able to free his vehicle before the goods train came minutes later. It takes about one kilometre for a loaded goods train to stop. Remember this.

A RARE Belgian Shepherd dog was shot in Eudlo after wandering on to a neighbouring property and chasing livestock. Owners must be responsible for their animals and realise that farmers are within their rights to kill a dog on the spot if it is threatening their stock.
