Community invited to meet Mayor

MAROOCHY Shire Mayor Don Culley will be guest speaker at the August 13 meeting of the Palmwoods Progress Association meeting to be held at the Palmwoods Memorial Hall meeting room.

The meeting will discuss the council’s plans to the year 2000, which include such topics as the Palmwoods Local Area Plan and the New Planning Scheme.

Another interesting council matter is Open Space Strategy. The PPA executive last month attended, by invitation, a public consultation meeting which was very informative and interesting.

The PPA hopes to have a more detailed report in the September monthly meeting regarding Open Space Strategy.

Members of the PPA executive were also invited to participate in a Community Workshop meeting convened as part of the Maroochy Shire New Planning Scheme Review.

For those not already aware, the Maroochy Shire has reached a critical stage in its growth and development. New State Planning Legislation (The Integrated Planning Act) will provide a new environmental management focus for the shire.

The study commenced in April last year and is planned to be completed by November this year.

The PPA believes the next meeting and the remaining meetings up to Christmas will be very interesting, dealing with the expected outcome of these various consultations and management studies.

The next meeting will be on Thursday August 13, at 7.30pm.

Everyone is invited to join the PPA for light refreshments and the social opportunity to discuss the future of Palmwoods. Your town, our piece of paradise....
